Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Inari Okami is often depicted in Japanese art as a benevolent, horned deity. This shrine is also famous for its fox spirits, known as kitsune, who are believed to be Inari's messengers and protectors of the shrine.

The shrine was rebuilt after a fire in 1663 by the Tsurugaoka family, who were patrons of the shrine.
