Cultural notes

As one of Japan's 'water shrines' (mizu miya), Tsukubami-no-Miyako-sha is associated with the legend of Yamabushi, a samurai who sought enlightenment by bathing in sacred waters. The shrine also hosts an annual Spring Festival (Haru Matsuri) to celebrate the arrival of spring.

Historical note

Founded in 1844 as a replica of an ancient shrine from the Hiraizumi area, during the Meiji period.
