The Eight-Horned Shrine, located in Yamagata Prefecture, is dedicated to the Shinto god Susanoo-no-Mikoto. According to legend, Susanoo was banished from heaven for his mischievous behavior and took refuge on earth, where he formed Mount Sakuramenaka into its current form. The shrine's eight horns are said to be those of Susanoo's divine buffalo. The shrine complex is notable for its unique torii gate, which features eight pillars instead of the standard six, reflecting the number of horns on the sacred animal. Visitors can also explore the shrine's museum, which houses exhibits on local folklore and history.
