Cultural notes
White Beard Shinto is often associated with navigation and maritime trade. Locals celebrate the annual White Beard Festival (Shirokuma Matsuri) in July to pray for good fortune and protection from storms. The shrine's garden features several stone statues of mythical creatures, including dragons and tengu.
Historical note
The shrine was founded in 1875 during the Meiji period as a result of a local deity's request for a temple to be built.
