Cultural notes
As a shrine along the coast, Suwashi no Okami Shrine is deeply connected to Shinto traditions related to the sea and its bounty. During the annual 'Kanmuri Matsuri' festival in May, devotees come to celebrate the shrine's patron deity, Ryujin, with offerings of fish and other seafood.
Historical note
The shrine was established during the Edo period (1603-1868) as a result of the fishing industry's growth in the area.
