Imago Eight-Faced Buddha statue is a well-known symbol of Imanosekikinari Shrine, located in the city of Kobe in Hyogo Prefecture. The shrine honors Inari Okami and was built to commemorate the arrival of the Japanese mainland's population into the region. The main deity of this shrine is believed to be Inari okami who protects fishermen and craftsmen.

Visitor tip

For an authentic experience, visit during cherry blossom season ( late March to early April) to see the beautiful plum blossoms surrounding the shrine.

Cultural notes

Imanosekikinari Shrine is famous for its unique festival called 'Akashi-Matsuri', which honors Inari Okami. During this festival, a large Eight-Faced Buddha statue is moved from one temple to another and finally back to its original location.

Historical note

The foundation of the shrine dates back to the Meiji period (1868-1912).
