Located in the city of Hikone, Aratagushi Shrine is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Shiga Prefecture, dedicated to the kami (spirits) of the Aki River and the surrounding mountains. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance, with a main hall built during the Heian period. In 2010, a major renovation took place, using traditional techniques and materials wherever possible. Visitors can explore the grounds, which feature several wooden bridges, scenic gardens, and historic monuments.
