西二口春日神社

Located in the city of Ōmihachiman, Ishikawa Prefecture, Sai no Shito Haruka Shrine is a beautiful Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of the sea and storms, Raijin. The shrine's main hall, Haiden, features a distinctive curved roof adorned with wooden shingles, while its Hoshizuka area boasts stunning cherry blossom trees that bloom in the spring. Visitor tip

Visit Sai no Shito Haruka Shrine at dawn or dusk when the sun is low in the sky for a serene and peaceful experience.

Cultural notes

This shrine is also famous for its beautiful autumn foliage, as well as its historic sake-brewing traditions. On New Year's Day (Oshogatsu), locals perform a purification ritual to cleanse their homes and ward off evil spirits.

Historical note

Founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), this shrine was originally dedicated to Raijin but later came to be associated with the god of learning, En no Gyōja.
