Cultural notes
Sanzubosshi Shrine is closely associated with the legend of Prince Nakatomo's spirit, said to reside within the shrine grounds. During the autumn season, visitors can witness the vibrant display of koyo (changing leaves), a spectacle often attributed to the prince's presence.
Historical note
The shrine was originally established during the Nara period (710-794 CE) as a memorial to Prince Nakatomo, a noble who played a key role in introducing Buddhism to Japan.
