三尾神社

Shiga

Located in the Hikone city of Shiga Prefecture, Sanekōji Shrine is dedicated to three deities known as Sanekōzuka: Ōinari (Inari), Ebisu, and Benzaiten. The shrine's architecture reflects the Edo period style, with a main hall that resembles a large wooden boat. According to legend, the three deities were worshipped together due to their shared association with the production of silk.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Sanekōji Shrine is known for its connection to the silk industry, as well as its association with the Buddhist god of good fortune, Benzaiten. During the autumnal equinox festival, visitors can participate in rituals to promote prosperity and good luck.

Historical note

The shrine was built in 1743 during the Edo period and has been reconstructed several times after being destroyed by fires.
