Located in the town of Hiraizumi, Iwate Prefecture, Salt Spring Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami that protects salt and agriculture. The shrine's architecture reflects its location near the ocean and is known for its well-preserved Hiyoshi-zukuri style, which dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE). The surrounding area is also home to many archaeological sites related to the ancient Jomon people.

Visitor tip

Salt Spring Shrine is famous for its unique association with the Shichisei (Seven Gods) of agriculture and fishing.
