Located in the scenic town of Mutsu, Aomori Prefecture's southern region, not Iwate, Oshigiri-san Eight Hymns Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god Inari, specifically known as Okami no Okami or more commonly referred to as Hachiman at other shrine locations. The name 'Eight Hymns' likely refers to the eight different aspects of the kami Inari. The shrine is renowned for its beautiful gardens and large torii gate that symbolizes the transition between heaven and earth, with a significant number of smaller gates leading up to it.

Cultural notes
The shrine's traditional eight Hymns Shinto ritual, often performed during New Year festivities, is said to bring good fortune and prosperity. The shrine also plays host to the annual Eight Hymns Festival, celebrating the blessings of the divine kami. Additionally, local artisans have crafted beautiful wooden figurines called 'kagamimori' in the image of Inari, which are highly regarded for their beauty and spiritual significance.

Founded during the Edo period (1603-1867) in the Mutsu region, later moved here from Yamagata Prefecture.
