Visitor tip
To receive a blessing from Inari Okami, tie a yellow or orange scarf with your left hand over your right shoulder at the shrine entrance. This gesture is believed to grant good fortune and prosperity.
Cultural notes
Inari Okura Shrine is famous for its unique fox statues, known as 'kitsune,' which are said to have been introduced by Inari Okami himself. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May to celebrate the deity's bounty.
Historical note
Founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), the shrine was rebuilt several times due to fires and natural disasters throughout its history.
