Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Tsuruga Shrine is famous for its unique festival, the Tsuruga-no-Matsuri, held annually in late July. During this celebration, participants dress up as mythical creatures and dance through the streets while carrying ornate lanterns and performing rituals to ensure good harvests.
Historical note
The shrine was initially built as a memorial for the Tsuruga Domain's founder, Yukichi Tokunaga, and has since been rebuilt and restored several times throughout its history.
