Sakazaki Mountain Shrine, located in the city of Mutsu, Iwate Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of fertility and prosperity. The shrine is situated at the foot of Sakazaki Mountain, which is said to be the dwelling place of the god. Visitors can experience the serene atmosphere of the shrine's gardens and traditional buildings.

Cultural notes

The shrine is famous for its annual Hoshizuna Matsuri festival, which celebrates the full moon and the god's power to bring good fortune. The shrine also has a unique tradition of ' sake service', where priests pour sake into cups made from sacred leaves, believed to purify the drinker.

Historical note

The shrine was established in 1869 as a replacement for an older shrine that had been destroyed during the Genroku period (1688-1704).
