Anciently situated in the heart of Sendai City, ancient Miyagi Prefecture's capital, is the renowned Ōgawara Jinja, also known as Kurokawa-jinsha or Kurikawa Shrine (古川神社), dedicated to the Shinto deity Inari Ōkami. The shrine complex spans over 1.2 hectares and features impressive wooden architecture characteristic of old Japanese temples, dating back to the Heian period. The interior spaces are divided into a large hall called the hon-do and smaller side shrines called machiya and torii, each dedicated to distinct aspects of Inari's essence: prosperity, agriculture, and the arts.
