Hirayoshi Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Hirayu town, Miyagi prefecture. The shrine was originally built in 718 AD during the Nara period and has undergone several renovations over the centuries. It is dedicated to Hachiman, the god of war and protector of the province, as well as the kami of good fortune and prosperity, Namagami-kami.

Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the shrine's historic architecture, consider visiting during the cherry blossom season (March-April) or autumn foliage (November-December).
Cultural notes
Hirayoshi Shrine is famous for its beautiful autumn leaves and vibrant autumn festival, held annually in late October. The shrine also has a notable Shinto tradition of 'tsukimono,' where participants perform purification rituals with candles to cleanse themselves before making offerings.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1868.
