Cultural notes
狭山神社 is said to be one of the few shrines dedicated to the kami of narrow valleys and mountain passes. According to legend, the shrine was built by a local samurai who sought protection from his enemies through the power of the kami. The shrine's grounds also host several festivals throughout the year, including the 'Kawara-gari' festival in May, which celebrates the arrival of spring.
Historical note
The shrine was relocated from its original site in 1598 due to the construction of the Osaka Castle.
