Mihara Shrine, dedicated to the kami Miharu-oki, is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Higashinada, Hyogo Prefecture. As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, it is believed to have been established during the Heian period (794-1185 CE). The shrine complex features a five-story pagoda, which is unusual for a Shinto shrine and reflects its Buddhist influence.

Cultural notes
Mihara Shrine is associated with the mythological figure of Miharu-oki, a kami believed to have control over the sea and weather. The shrine also hosts an annual 'Setsubun' festival in February, where participants throw beans to ward off evil spirits.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed by a fire during the Genpei War (1180-1185 CE).
