Miyagi's oldest shrine, Gamo-Ōdaiminshō, has a rich history dating back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE). Dedicated to the Shinto deity Gamo Ō no Oomikoto, it is said to have been built in 735 CE by Prince Namihira. The shrine's architecture reflects its long history, with a wooden torii gate and a traditional honden (main hall) that has undergone several renovations. Visitors can explore the shrine's peaceful gardens and traditional Japanese architecture.
