Cultural notes

As a major Hachiman shrine, Kinjōdori Jurokujin Shrine is closely associated with the legend of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a legendary samurai who sought divine favor before his famous duel with Saika no Shita-no-kami. The shrine's architecture and grounds also reflect its role as a site for purification rituals in preparation for battles.

Historical note

Established in 711 AD during the Asuka period, making it one of Japan's oldest shrines.
