Cultural notes

Shira Godo Shrine is connected to the mythology of Hachiman, the god of war and patron deity of samurai. The shrine's architecture is believed to be influenced by the Buddhist stupa design, reflecting the syncretic nature of Shinto-Buddhist traditions in Japan.

Historical note

The shrine was originally built in 714 CE by Prince Nagaya no Okami and has undergone several renovations throughout its history.
