The Hikone Jokoju Shinen is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture. Cultural notes
According to legend, the shrine was built on a site where the 16th-century daimyo Tokugawa Iemitsu once performed rituals. The shrine is also famous for its traditional 'matsuri' festivals, which feature music, dance, and offerings to the kami.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1708 after a devastating fire in 1687.
