Cultural notes

Toyotogata Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto kami Hachiman, patron deity of merchants, travelers, and those seeking good fortune. The shrine is also famous for its unique architecture, which reflects a mix of traditional Japanese and Hokkaidan styles. During the annual Toyotogata Matsuri festival, held in July, visitors can experience traditional dances, music, and food, as well as witness the sacred ritual of the 'Shinmei Jogyo' ceremony.

Historical note

The shrine was built during the Edo period (1603-1867) by a local samurai family.
