Nageido Shrine is connected to the mythology of the sun goddess Amaterasu, who was said to have descended to earth as a fox spirit. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival (Koyo Matsuri) in November.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1871 after a fire destroyed the original structure.
