Nageido Shrine, located in Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka Prefecture, is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Established during the Edo period, it is famous for its beautiful garden and stunning views of Mt. Fuji. Cultural notes

Nageido Shrine is connected to the mythology of the sun goddess Amaterasu, who was said to have descended to earth as a fox spirit. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival (Koyo Matsuri) in November.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1871 after a fire destroyed the original structure.
