Located on the island of Izu Oshima, Tsu Island Shrine is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu. The shrine's architecture reflects the traditional style of Shuzenji-style temples, with a distinctive curved roof and wooden structures. Visitors can walk through the shrine grounds, offering prayers and making wishes at the many shrines and torii gates along the way.

Visitor tip
For a unique experience, take a ferry to Izu Oshima island and visit during the Cherry Blossom season (March-April) for beautiful views and fewer crowds.
Cultural notes
Tsu Island Shrine is associated with the legend of Amaterasu's daughter, Ninigi-no-Mikoto, who was said to have descended onto the island after being banished by her mother. The shrine also has a strong connection to the local community, hosting annual festivals and ceremonies throughout the year.
