Dragon Shrine, located in the town of Iwata in Shizuoka Prefecture, is dedicated to the god Ryujin, a dragon deity revered for its power and benevolence. Built in 1767 during the Edo period, the shrine's architecture reflects traditional Japanese styles, with a distinctive five-story pagoda and a large vermilion torii gate. Visitors can explore the shrine's serene gardens and walk along the nearby Kiso River.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Ryujin is often associated with good luck and prosperity. During the annual Dragon Festival in May, visitors can participate in traditional dances and rituals to honor the deity.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed in an earthquake in 1703.
