Located in Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, Eight Gates Shrine is one of the oldest and most important shrines in Japan. Cultural notes
According to legend, Ninjō-sai is believed to have protected the road between Kyoto and Odawara from bandits in the 12th century. This legend has led to Eight Gates Shrine being known as Ninjō-jin
