國司神社

Okayama

國司神社 is a Shinto shrine located in Okayama Prefecture, dedicated to the enshrined kami of Fukutsu no Okami and Tsukiyomi-no-Kami. The shrine's architecture reflects the Heian period style, with a simple yet elegant main hall and vermilion torii gates. As one of the oldest shrines in Japan, nation-building played an important role in its history.

Visitor tip

The shrine hosts a festival in July to honor these kami, featuring traditional dances and food stalls. Locals also visit the shrine during the 'Setsubun' bean-throwing ceremony in February to ward off evil spirits.
