Ishihara Shrine, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, is dedicated to Inari Okami, the Shinto deity of rice and fertility. Cultural notes
Ishihara Shrine is famous for its association with Inari Okami's sacred messenger, Ryujin, who is said to reside in the shrine's pond. During the annual Inari Matsuri festival, visitors can watch the shrine's fox statues being paraded through the streets.
Historical note
The shrine was first built in 757 AD and has since been rebuilt several times, with the current structure dating back to the Edo period.
