Located in the city of Hamamatsu, Suruga Bay Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, the kami of rice and industry. The shrine's history dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE), and it was originally built as a temple dedicated to Esoteric Buddhism before being re-established as a Shinto shrine in 1633 during the Edo period. Today, the shrine is famous for its vibrant vermilion torii gate and beautiful gardens, which are said to be the favorite haunt of Inari Okami.

Cultural notes
Suruga Bay Shrine is particularly famous for its 'fox kami' association, as locals believe that Inari Okami has a special affinity with fox spirits. During the annual Fox Festival (Kitsune Matsuri), which takes place in October, visitors can enjoy traditional performances and games featuring these mythical creatures.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt and relocated to its current site in 1902 after a fire destroyed the original building.
