The shrine's history dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE), and it was originally built as a temple dedicated to Esoteric Buddhism before being re-established as a Shinto shrine in 1633 during the Edo period. Today, the shrine is famous for its vibrant vermilion torii gate and beautiful gardens, which are said to be the favorite haunt of Inari Okami.
