Located in small town of Kamikatsu on the northern edge of Ishikawa Prefecture, the eight-spoke shrine is an important Shinto site honoring the god of fertility and prosperity, Hachiman. The complex is said to have been built over 400 years ago and features traditional wooden buildings with tiled roofs, surrounded by a tranquil forested area. The shrine is renowned for its beautiful garden and seasonal festivals celebrating spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the shrine's beauty, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and stroll through the garden's winding paths while avoiding peak afternoon sun.
Cultural notes
Hachiman is revered as the god of war but also patron deity for artisans and farmers. The shrine hosts the annual Hachiman Matsuri festival in May, where devotees worship at a large torii gate adorned with colorful lanterns.
Historical note
Founded in the Edo period (1603-1867), the shrine's complex was rebuilt after being destroyed in a fire in 1945.
