八雲神社

Shimane

Located in the beautiful Shimane Prefecture,八雲神社 is a serene Shinto shrine dedicated to the storm god Raijin. Built during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), the shrine's architecture reflects the traditional style of Japanese temples and shrines, with a rectangular main hall surrounded by verdant gardens. Visitor tip

As a shrine dedicated to Raijin, the storm god, Eight Cloud Shrine is believed to offer protection against thunderstorms and bad weather. Locals often visit the shrine during the Rain Festival to pray for good harvests and fertile lands.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in the 16th century during the Sengoku period (1467-1603 CE), when it was restored to its current location.
