Located in the coastal town of Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Utsunomiya Shrine is one of Japan's most famous and ancient Shinto shrines. The shrine's origins date back to the 7th century, making it over 1,300 years old. It enshrines the god Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who was said to have been involved in a great flood that devastated Izumo.
