Located in the heart of Shimane Prefecture, Maemori Hachimangū is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of war and prosperity, Hachiman. The shrine's architecture reflects traditional Japanese design, with a main hall and several smaller shrines. According to legend, the shrine was established by the famous samurai leader Minamoto no Yoshitsune in 1185.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Maemori Hachimangū is closely associated with the legend of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who was said to have defeated the Taira clan in the Genpei War. The shrine also has connections to the Japanese folklore figure known as 'yabusame', a skilled archer who could shoot arrows from a distance without missing.
