Cultural notes
The shrine is associated with the god of spring, known as Shunen no kami. According to legend, this kami was worshipped for its role in purifying the soul during the sacred spring festival (Hanami). The shrine was originally founded in the early Edo period (1603-1867), but its current structure dates back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
