男崎神社

Shimane

Maleza Shrine, located in the town of Mabuchi in Shimane Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine that enshrines the kami of the sea and the wind. The shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and stunning views of the Sea of Japan. Visitors can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and take part in the annual Otsukimi Festival to celebrate the harvest moon.

Visitor tip

For a scenic view of the surrounding area, climb the torii gate on the western side of the shrine and look out for the nearby Iwami Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cultural notes

Maleza Shrine is associated with the wind god, Kaze-no-Kami, who is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity. During the Otsukimi Festival, visitors can pray for good harvests and fertility.

Historical note

The shrine was built during the Edo period, around 1653.
