Cultural notes

諏訪神社 is associated with the mythology of the Shitennō, the Five Deities of Good Fortune, who are believed to have helped Emperor Shōmu during his reign. The shrine also hosts a traditional autumn festival, the 'Tanabata' celebration, which features lanterns and traditional food stalls.

Historical note

The shrine was built in 718 CE by Emperor Shōmu, making it one of the oldest shrines in Japan.
