The Toyosu Shrine, dedicated to the deity Amaterasu Omikami, is a Shinto shrine located in the Toyosu area of Chiba Prefecture. The shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture. According to legend, the shrine was built by Emperor Jimmu, who is said to have founded Japan's imperial line. The shrine has been an important center for rituals and ceremonies in honor of Amaterasu, the Shinto sun goddess.

Cultural notes

In Japanese mythology, Amaterasu is believed to reside in heaven. During the annual Aki Matsuri festival, local residents dress up in traditional costumes and reenact a mythological battle between the gods and monsters, which culminates in Amaterasu's victory.

Historical note

The Toyosu Shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed during World War II.
