Shimane

Located in the town of Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, this Shinto shrine is dedicated to the sea and fertility. The 'genkan' at the entrance is adorned with a beautiful wooden beam, while the interior is decorated with intricate carvings. Visitors can walk along the nearby Matsue River, which offers stunning views of the Higashi Matsue Castle and the historic city center.

Historical note

The shrine was established in the Edo period (1603-1868), originally as a fishing village shrine dedicated to Otori Tadakuni's deity, who watched over the local fishermen.
