Cultural notes
Godai Inari Shrine is known for its unique festival, the Toyama Godai Matsuri, which takes place in September. The festival features traditional music, dance, and food, as well as a procession of decorated floats through the city streets. The shrine is also famous for its beautiful cherry blossom trees, which bloom annually in late March.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built in the 15th century as a small shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, a local deity associated with rice and fertility. Over time, it gained popularity and expanded its offerings to Godai Inari, a more powerful version of the deity.
