鷲神社

Located in the city of Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, 鷲神社 (Wakamiya Shrine) is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of wind and the patron deity of sailors and fishermen. The shrine's main hall was built in the Edo period and features a distinctive red roof with a golden dragon finial. Wakamiya Shrine is famous for its vibrant autumn foliage, attracting many visitors each year.

Cultural notes

Wakamiya Shrine is associated with the legend of a giant turtle that helped guide the mythical hero Susanoo no Mikoto across the sea. The shrine's wind god deity, Fūjin, is also believed to have the power to bring good luck and prosperity to those who pray for it.

Historical note

The shrine was established in 1624 by the Tokugawa shogunate.
