Temple of the god Tsukuyomi, patron deity of the moon and agriculture, lies in North Nishimachi town in Yamanashi Prefecture. The shrine is famous for its scenic beauty with over 1,000 cherry blossom trees surrounding the main hall. Visitors come to pray for a good harvest and pray for the health of loved ones.

Visitor tip
Visit at night in late March or early April to see the full moon reflected on the moat, a sacred ritual said to bring good luck.
Cultural notes
Tsukuyomi is also revered for his association with the god of writing and education. The shrine hosts the 'Shinbun Matsuri' festival to celebrate literature and education.
