Cultural notes

Historical note

This shrine is one of many Itsukushima branch shrines established across Japan following the widespread veneration of the three goddess sisters enshrined at the original Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Bay. Local Itsukushima shrines were often built near water sources or coastal areas to honor the maritime protective powers of the enshrined deities.
