Located in the heart of Nagasaki, 大山祇神社 is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the worship of the kami Okuninushi-no-kami, one of the three patron deities of agriculture and fertility. Built during the Edo period (17th-19th centuries), the shrine's architecture reflects the regional style of Nagasaki, with its distinctive roof tiles and vermilion accents.

Visitor tip

Okuninushi-no-kami is also known as the 'patron of women in childbearing' and is often invoked for good fortune and fertility. The shrine hosts an annual spring festival, known as 'Sanaga matsuri', which features traditional dances and offerings to ensure a bountiful harvest.
