Gusu Shrine, located in Fukuoka Prefecture, is dedicated to the Shinto deity Susanoo-no-Mikoto and is one of Japan's oldest shrines. The shrine's architecture reflects its Heian period origins with a five-story pagoda and several buildings that date back to the Kamakura era. Gusu Shrine is also famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional festivals, such as the Spring Festival and Autumn Leaves Festival.

Cultural notes
Gusu Shrine has a strong connection to the legend of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who is said to have created the islands of Japan. The shrine also hosts an annual Shinnen Matsuri festival in February, which features traditional music and dance performances.

Founded in the early Heian period (8th century), it was originally dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto but later came to be enshrined with the addition of another kami.
