菊川神社 is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture. The shrine is dedicated to Tsukiyomi-no-kami, the god of the moon and ocean. According to legend, Tsukiyomi-no-kami took pity on the local villagers who were struggling with rice cultivation and created a fertile field that brought prosperity to the area. The shrine's main hall, torii gate, and garden are all modeled after traditional Shinto architecture from the Edo period.

Visitor tip
Visitors can take a boat ride down the nearby River Ena to see the shrine's torii gate standing on the water, creating a stunning visual effect.
Cultural notes
In the autumn, the shrine hosts a festival called 'Matsuri no Hi' in honor of Tsukiyomi-no-kami. During this time, visitors can enjoy traditional Shinto performances and food, as well as participate in a sacred dance to purify their spirits.
