Located in Gunma Prefecture, Iseya Inari Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god Inari, known as the patron deity of rice, fertility, and industry. The shrine's main hall features a beautiful vermilion torii gate and is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates surrounding the shrine grounds. Visitor tip
To fully appreciate the beauty of the gates, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) when they are adorned with beautiful pink blossoms.
Cultural notes
Iseya Inari Shrine is famous for its association with the legend of Inari Okami, a powerful kami who was said to have been worshipped by farmers and artisans. The shrine's many torii gates are believed to protect the visitors and bring good fortune.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built in 778 AD by Emperor Shoen, and has been rebuilt several times since then, with the current main hall dating back to 1873.
