Longest Shrine in Japan, dedicated to the god of good health and fertility, Longevity Rice Goddess. Located in Gunma Prefecture, it is believed that the goddess appeared to a local farmer who offered her sake and was healed of his illness. The shrine's main hall has two layers of shoji screens with intricate carvings depicting various Japanese mythological scenes.

Try some Longevity Rice at the food stalls near the entrance, a specialty of Gunma Prefecture.
Cultural notes
Longevity Goddess is also associated with longevity and good health. The shrine's New Year's festival, called 'Omisoka' features traditional dances and rituals to purify visitors for the coming year.
